Mission and Global Outreach

While we are formed and informed through our worship, fellowship, and education, we are defined by our engagement in the world, in the work of ministry both locally and globally.

El Salvador Mission Work

In the summer of 2008 and 2009, St. Peter’s has been globally involved by sending our missioners to El Salvador under the direction of Foundation Cristosal, an organization that supports the ministry of Episcopal Diocese of El Salvador. While there, our missioners help in rebuilding a church facility that had been in disrepair since the beginning of the country’s civil war in the village of Sitio de Los Nejapas. Padre David of San Miguel Church in Quezaltepeque overseas our development efforts.

Millennium Development Goals

St. Peter’s participates in a global enterprise known as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), initiated by the leaders from the United States and 190 other nations and endorsed by the Episcopal Church, by earmarking 1% of its budget. MDGs seek to reduce extreme global poverty in half by year 2015 by achieving the following goals:
  1. Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
  2. Achieve Universal Primary Education for Children
  3. Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
  4. Reduce Child Mortality
  5. Improve Maternal Health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases
  7. Ensure Environment Sustainability
  8. Create a Global Partnership for Development
As Foundation Cristosal’s efforts in El Salvador cover most of the goals of Millennium Development initiative, we distribute our funds for the development efforts in El Salvador through Foundation Cristosal. Half of what we contribute goes towards achieving Universal Primary Education for children and the other half goes to support an agricultural school in eastern El Salvador called Hasta la Cosecha. Through our annual mission trips, involvement with the people of El Salvador, and through our participation in the MDGs, we hope to “develop a global partnership for development.”
